Toyota/Waite Toyota Modified All-Star Event To Determine
Top Qualifiers for 60th Sunoco Race of
Champions. Starting Field Beginning To Take Shape.
BINGHAMTON,
NY…The
summer long qualifying trail for the second running of
the Modified-All Star event is ongoing as the top
Modified teams look to lock their name in to the 30 lap
Friday, Sept. 24th special event. The top
finishing teams will not only secure their spot in the
60th running of the Sunoco Race of Champions
they could also find their way in to the front row.
The early
list of All-Star drivers is already impressive and will
certainly grow in the extremely important month of
August. Chuck Hossfeld will represent the
Shangri-La II Speedway after his victory back in May
during the inaugural visit by the RoC Tour. Rowan
Pennick, a top five finisher in last year’s All-Star
Event has secured his place in the event after winning
the “East versus West” RoC/MRS Shootout at the Albany
Saratoga Speedway.
Chuck
Hossfeld was the winner of the Richie Evans Memorial on
Memorial Day Weekend at Oswego Speedway which turns the
starting spot over to runner-up Bill Hebing.
Matt Hirschman took runner-up honors at Spencer
Speedway and will represent the Williamson, NY oval at
Oswego.
Erick
Rudolph finished third at Dunn Tire Raceway Park but
that was good enough to land him a spot in to the
All-Star Event as both Hossfeld and Hirschman were
already locked in to the race. Rudolph gets to
represent his local race track at Oswego.
J.R. Kent
will also get to represent his weekly track – The
Chemung Speedrome, after finishing third behind Matt
Hirschman and Erick Rudolph back on July 18th.
Pete Brittain is also locked in to the event
after an early season victory at the Wall Township
Speedway in New Jersey and Billy Putney will be
entered in the Modified All-Star event as the Defending
Winner of the Sunoco Race of Champions 200.
A number of
qualifiers will be on tap in August and September
leading up to the 60th running of the Sunoco
Race of Champions. Once again T.J. Toyota and Waite
Toyota have signed on as weekend partners of the RoC
activities.
Alternate
starters for the event will once again be based on
drivers in the RoC Dart Asphalt Modified Tour Point
Standings entering that weekend. Recent drivers
added to the field include: Tom McGrath, Jimmy
Zacharias, Eric Beers, Bobby Bond and Jan Leaty.
The final qualifier is this Sunday at Dunn Tire Raceway
Park for the "U.S. Open". A past winner of the
Race of Champions 200 will be randomly drawn this
Saturday at the "U.S. Open" for the final entry in to
the All-Star 30.
The Sunoco
Race of Champions Weekend is set for Friday and
Saturday, September 24th and 25th. An open
practice will occur on Thursday, September 23rd.
