 RACE OF CHAMPIONS LATE MODEL RULES

Sunday, July 24th at Oswego Speedway

 

100 laps – cautions will count from laps 26 – 75 no more than 5 laps will be counted under any one yellow period at a time. 

 

No mandatory pit stop is required but they will be allowed.

Cars will be weighed prior to the start of the feature.

   – minimum 30 cars to start based on entries filed.

 

Teams will be allowed to make changes to their car between time trials and the feature event.   Teams must start the feature event on time trial tires.  Teams must make weight after time trials.

 

Purse information:  $3,000 to win, minimum of $200 to take the green.  30 starting spots available. 

 

When teams draw chips for time trial/heat position tech chips will be in the bucket.  Chips for compression, cubic inch, carburetor, and other specific tech items will be in the bucket.  Teams that draw a tech chip will be teched prior to any racing activity.

 

ALL TEAMS MUST HAVE A SPOTTER THAT CAN RELAY OFFICIALS MESSAGES. OFFICIALS WILL BE USING THE FREQUENCY OF 151.625 TEAMS WILL NEED TO HAVE A SPOTTER THAT CAN MONITOR THAT FREQUENCY.   SPOTTERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE IN THE SAME AREA IN THE BACKSTRETCH SEATING SECTION.  WE ARE TRYING TO AVOID UNNECESSARY DELAYS AND CAUTION PERIODS.  We will also be using the Raceceiver radio for the drivers on a frequency 454.000.

 

Weights for 2011 Event:

            Crate Motors – per the Lake Erie Rulebook must weigh a minimum of 2,800 lbs with a maximum left side weight of 58%.

            Built Motors – must weigh a minimum of 2,800 lbs. with a maximum left side weight of 58% (11 to 1 compression cars).

            Any Motor over 11 to 1 compression must add 50 lbs. (max. 12 to 1 allowed).

            Any dry sump motor must add 50 lbs.

 

 

General Rules:  Home track rules apply based on 2011 rules that our committee has from northeast speedways. However, above weight rules must be met along with the following additional rules:

Engines

            Engine Displacement as follows:

                  A.  General Motors:  350 cubic inch displacement OEM block plus a maximum of .045 inch overbore per cylinder.

                  B. Ford:  351 cubic inch displacement OEM block plus a maximum of .040 inch overbore per cylinder.

                  C. Chrysler:  340 or 360 cubic inch displacement OEM blocks plus a maximum of .030 inch overbore per cylinder .355 cubic inch displacement    Chrysler engines not allowed.

Carbuertor: 1 – 4412 Holley 500 CFM two barrel carburetor only.  No alterations except choke plate may be removed.  Choke horns must remain in place.    Carburetor must be mounted in stock configuration.  One space adapter, maximum 1” thick.  Spacer not allowed if 1” is built into intake.

Intake Manifold:  Any one piece, untouched, as cast manifold is allowed.

                        The manifold must remain as produced by the original manufacturer and must be stamped with the part number.

                        The manifold may not be modified, painted, polished or coated.

                        Port matching is allowed up to ½” (inch) max. No other machining including but not limited to drilling or flow improvement work is                                       permitted.

                        No acid porting or etching of any kind. Violation of this rule will result in disqualification.

 

All cars have must working starter.  Failure to start under own power will  force driver to start at rear of field.

Fuel -

Fuel cells are mandatory and must be securely mounted in a 1” square tubing frame centered between frame rails.  Cell must 8” ground clearance with driver in      position and race ready.  Check ball is required.  Only approved racing fuel permitted, no alcohol, nitrous oxide, or any other fuel additives may be used.  A fuel shutoff valve must be located within drivers reach. 22 gallon maximum capacity.  One mechanical fuel pump only.

Any steel header is allowed and the exhaust must exit behind the driver.  Mufflers are mandatory.  Cars with 180 degree headers add 50 lbs. weight to above weights.

Heights – Measurements

            A.  Frame rails must be a minimum of 3-1/2” off of ground with driver in car.

            Stock clip cars must be a minimum of 2” off ground with driver.

B. Spoiler height is a max. of 6”, 41” max. from ground to top of spoiler.

C. Minimum allowable roof height is 46” measured from 10” back from the center of the windshield with the driver in the car and 6”                                forward from the rear window.  Top lip shall be no less than 44”. 

D. Wheelbase – 104” minimum

Bodies

A. All bodies must be stock appearing steel, fiberglass or aluminum replicas.  No wedge type bodies or noses.  No kevlar or carbon fiber panels allowed.

            Dirt noses not allowed.  The Five Star type template will be the standard body type.

            B. Air cleaners must remain under hood.

            C. Center of hood may be raised 3” by 20” with air opening in rear only.

            D. Five Star High Performance Short Track bodies permitted.  Must meet exact specs as shown in Five Star catalog.  Roof heights on stock clip cars may be no lower than 42 inches.

Chassis

            A. Engine must be centered in frame with front most plug not exceed 2” back from center of ball joint.  Ford and Dodge cars permitted to                                setback max. 4”.

            B. Spindles must be steel.  Safety hubs required.

            No traction control devices (mechanical or electrical) are permitted. 

Drive Train

            A. No 5 speeds or in-out type.

            B. Steel or aluminum drive shafts.  No carbon fiber.  Must have steel encasing guards to protect driver.

            C.  No electric or hydraulic, electric or electronic devices allowed in rear end.

            D. No independent, cambered or locker type rear end allowed.

 

Steel Wheels only – max. 10”wide.  Ten inch tires only in the following compound:

Tires:  Left Side Options: Hoosier 2060, 1055 and 1040 – F55 option also available for the left side at a cost of only $50 (very limited supply).

            Right Side Options:  Hoosier 2070 or 1070.

Tech – when each driver arrives to draw for starting position on Friday, tech chips will be placed within the draw bucket.  If a tech chip is drawn a driver will be pre-checked for that item prior to practice on Friday.  If illegal - car will be disqualified from weekend competition with no refunds made.  Tech chips will include – compression and cubic inch checks.   There will be ZERO tolerance for compression or left side and overall weights. Radio’s permitted.  ONE center mirror allowed. 

The top 3 feature finishers will be checked for compression and cubic inch along with carburetors.

 

Late Model Rules additions/corrections 

Engines

Crate Engine Option per past Lancaster, Holland and Lake Erie Rulebooks

These cars can weigh 2,800 lbs. and will be allowed to run a 58 % left side weight.

These rules must be met without any deviation.  Any modifications to these rules will result in disqualification.  Any “worked on” or altered carburetor from what is listed below will result in disqualification.


1. The GM 410 horsepower crate engine, part number 88958604 will be permitted for competition.
2. The Ford crate engine, part number M-6007-D347 will be permitted for competition.
3. The Dodge crate engine, part number P5007958 will be permitted for competition.
4. Track Officials reserve the right to impound, inspect, replace, and/or have an independent engine builder inspect and test any competitors crate engine at any time.
5. All engines will be sealed by the manufacturer and/or by an authorized crate engine dealer. All
engine seals must be acceptable to Track Officials.
6. Any team found to have tampered with any engine seals will be subject to disqualification from the event, loss of all points, suspension and/or other penalties issued from Track Management and Track Officials. Any seals that in the judgment of the Track Manager and/or Track Officials have been tampered with and/or altered will result in the engine being declared ineligible for competition.
7. For all crate engines the 650 CFM Holley 4777-1or 0-80541-1 carburetor will be permitted. The carburetor and/or any carburetor components (ie; boosters, throttle plates throttle body, throttle shafts, metering blocks, etc…) must remain stock in appearance and match all factory dimensions.
Alterations to the carburetor and/or any carburetor components will not be permitted. Only Holley replacement and/or service parts will be permitted in carburetor rework. Carburetors and/or carburetor components machined from billet materials will not be permitted.

8. Crate engine header:
Exhaust Header requirements:
a. 1 5/8” Outside Diameter - 1 Ύ” Outside Diameter, step-type design, 3”- 3.5” collectors will be
permitted.
b. The complete exhaust header must be of the conventional-type design. Four in to one collectors will be permitted.
c. One single round exhaust pipe will be permitted to create an exhaust path from each cylinder.
d. The maximum length for the collector is 4”.
e. The end of the exhaust pipe may exit on the car on the right side, or if the exhaust pipe remains inside the car, the pipe may be turned down to face the ground.
f. A complete and unaltered muffler system is mandatory. All mufflers must be mounted with the inlet and the outlet in the proper direction and be removable for inspection.
g. The decibel for all events will be 90 decibels at 100 feet.
h. Spacers will not be permitted between the cylinder head and the exhaust header mounting flange.
