FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
56th ANNUAL SUNOCO RACE OF CHAMPIONS MODIFIED 200 NEXT
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH AT
The Modified 200 always pits some of the best talent in the northeast for this traditional event. Last year over 65 teams were on hand for the 55th edition of the event. Chuck Hossfeld emerged the winner and logged his name into the Race of Champions record books for the second time. The win earned the Ransomville, NY driver over $15,000.
This year over $22,000 in bonus lap money has been generated by Marilyn and Don Toal. The Toal’s have been long time Race of Champions supporters and their efforts again this year have been outstanding. There are a minimum of 20 laps that will pay $500 each to lead courtesy of Hooker Motorsports.
With this year’s new format of time trials to determine the top 12 drivers, there is a good opportunity for a driver to lock in a lot of bonus dollars. This year’s format will see the top 12 fastest Modified teams advance into the 200 lap field. Those 12 drivers will re-draw for position. The remainder of the field will qualify through heat races with those line ups based on the original draw for position at the beginning of the day. The top four fastest drivers will earn 5 bonus points each as well.
Race of Champions Owner, Andrew Harpell stated, “Marilyn and Don Toal have always been such great supporters of the Race of Champions and their efforts are appreciated by so many of us.” He added, “The $22,535.00 that they raised will all go to the drivers that lead laps and this of course can certainly change a drivers decision making regarding pit stop strategy.”
Once again the Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 will pay a minimum again of $10,000 to win. Over $22,000 in bonus lap money is also up for grabs which could raise the winners total to well over $30,000.
